Two champions twice over is all we can say about Alex Montanile and founder, Dodge Suprun, who were recently awarded Gold medals for volunteer service.
Both young men were awarded gold medals for hundreds of volunteer hours this past year by the Presidential Volunteer Service Program. The two students have a common passion for academic excellence, baseball, and bringing sports to medically challenged young people.
In addition to volunteering with and leading Strike Out Kids Cancer Foundation, the two art students at City College of New York. They are both starters on the college’s baseball team where they won the 2023 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) championship last May.
This victory makes them champs twice over for their hard work and dedication to the sport. They are both returning to CCNY baseball this year to try to win a third award this year.
Two Champions Twice Over
In addition to athletics, the Jeanette K Watson Foundation named Suprun to their list of 2023 fellows. His first assignment was working as a community outreach intern with the New York City Office of Emergency Management. In this assignment he worked to help prepare other volunteers to respond in their community during disasters.
Strike Out Kids Cancer is planning more sporting events in 2024 for children with medical conditions that present a challenge to being on a typical field.
